Ostinato

Ostinato

You could call Ostinato one of the rare Austrian REAL-Jazz-Rock bands! It played in many different formations, always featuring some of the best musicians of Austria! 1974 it was founded by Tommy Böröcz und Claudius Jelinek. Further members of the group: Hannes Seidl (later part of Minisex) on keyboards and Gogo Weinberger on bass. Percussion was needed and the young talent Andy Steirer was the right man. In the next years slowly the group grew and other great musicians of austria were added, like Bobby Dodge (tb), Harry Sokal Ts), Peter Ponger (P), Peter Paul Skrepek (G), Bumi Fian (Tp), Wolfgang Puschnig (As) Rens Newland replaced the guitar position in 1981(it was time to refresh the band) On bass Heinz Jäger, on piano Robert Schönherr, who was alternating with Robert Kastler. The first album „Ostinato“ was released 1983, several followed, till now!

2017: An important jubilee year for Ostinato: celebrating 40 years on stage with a big Gala concert in their hometown Vienna and a jubilee tour as well! The band was founded in the middle of the seventies. From the start Tommy Böröcz was the driving power (as drummer & writer) of the project. In the eighties Rens Newland (a Dutchman in Vienna) joined the band as guitarist and writer and in the following decades these two artists shared the musical directing and the band organizing. Ostinato has gained an established name in European Funk, Fusion and Latin Jazz, the influence of which they took home from a tour in South America. The jubilee album contents exclusively original compositions and all the aspects of the typical Ostinato Sound are represented. From straight Funk through more complicated Fusion Jazz to Latin Jazz, plus three special dedications to Jimi Hendrix, Joe Zawinul and Miles Davis. The steady line-up: Christian Maurer . tenor- and soprano saxophone, Andi See . alto saxophone, Horst Michael Schaffer . trumpet and flügelhorn, Martin Wöss . keyboards, Robert Riegler . bass, Andi Steirer . percussion, Rens Newland . guitars, composition and arrangement, Tommy Böröcz . drums, composition and arrangement

Slowwalker Musical Prostitution
Que Vida, Me Querida Galactic Jazzdance
On a Cold Summerday Straight On Chili Con Carne

This is the second album of the Funk/Fusion/Latin Jazz band. At this time the status of the group was quite settled, after the time of big festivals like Velden and Wiesen in Austria. The band is touring at least two times a year, mostly in the german speaking part of Europe: Austria, Switserland, Germany. The main actors are still Tommy Böröcz and Rens Newland as the composers and arrangers, the rest of the band is chancing, especially  because of the overlap situation with the Vienna Art Orchestra, which is very succesful at that time and doing big long tours. But Vienna is a good source for Jazz musicians. so new talents get their chance here, like the genious trumpet player Andy Haderer, who is later changing to the famous WDR Big Band on lead trumpet!  The musical ideas and interpretations are fresh, partly a little more rocky or heavy grooving. CD Line-up: TOMMY BÖRÖCZ drums, congas, timbales, claves, maracas, cowbells, guiro, tambourin, keyboards on „Slowwalker“, grand piano on „Que Vida Me Querida“ RENS NEWLAND all guitars, guitar synthesizer, agogobells, Chinese bells, tambourine, Linn programming HARRY GANSBERGER keyboards, synthesizer programming ALBERT KREUZER bass ANDREAS HADERER trumpet, flugelhorn KLAUS DICKBAUER alto saxophone MARTIN FUSS soprano & tenor saxophone

Sabor del Sol

This was the first album of the austrian Funk/Fusion/Latin Jazz band Ostinato. At that time the band already existed for some years, winning talent competitions and already playing lots of concerts. A big milestone for the group was the tour to South-America. Tommy Böröcz came back with a head full of musical ideas and he made a bunch of great compositions, integrating three horns now to get a bigger sound! Rens Newland just came into the band before and started helping to organize the vehicle and composing for the project. Also several other prominent new personalities of the Vienna scene joined the band and the touring life started.
