One thing is premised, this excellent band has nothing to do with the infamous "Dreyfus Affair" – which is all about murder and espionage. This band is all about groovy & swinging entertainment at the highest level:

Dominik Fuss (trumpet, flugelhorn, bass trumpet & composition)
Award-winning trumpeter Dominik Fuss (b. 1989) is distinguished by his ability to bridge jazz, classical, and contemporary music. Alongside Affaere Dreyfuss, he develops his artistic vision through the interdisciplinary electronic project VOID., a lyrical duo with pianist Jörg Leichtfried and the contemporary ensemble Studio Dan. He currently performs as a soloist with the Volksopera Vienna. Internationally he has collaborated with renowned artists including Dee Dee Bridgewater, George Lewis, Vinko Globokar, Mathias Rüegg, Christian Muthspiel & ORJAZZTRA Vienna and Juan Diego Flórez, and played his compositions throughout Southeast Asia, America, and Europe.
Florian Fuss (saxophone, flute & clarinet)
A highly versatile reed player (b. 1991), Florian Fuss is proficient across the full spectrum of woodwind instruments. After studying with Klaus Dickbauer at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (mdw), he quickly established himself in theatre and studio productions. Since autumn 2024, he has held a permanent position with the prestigious orchestra of the Vereinigte Bühnen Wien (VBW). His rhythmic versatility is equally at home in large-scale musical productions and in the close-knit jazz sextet Affaere Dreyfuss.
Martin Fuss (saxophone, flute, clarinet & composition)
Father of Dominik and Florian, Martin Fuss (b. 1960) is regarded as one of the defining figures of Austria's jazz, pop, and studio music scene. After studying in Vienna and at the legendary Berklee College of Music in Boston, he became one of Austria's most sought-after musicians. His extensive career includes collaborations with international icons such as Ray Charles, Joe Zawinul, and Natalie Cole, as well as countless musical theatre and television productions. Since 1991, he has passed on his vast experience as Professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (mdw).
Max Tschida (piano, keyboards & Hammond organ)
Maximilian Tschida (b. 1989) is a pianist and arranger renowned for his intuitive musical understanding and remarkable stylistic versatility. Whether exploring lyrical jazz, sophisticated fusion harmonies, or folk-inspired soundscapes, he moves effortlessly across genres. In recent years he has attracted particular attention through his duo with guitarist Tobias Faulhammer (album Rise and Shine) and as the tasteful harmonic driving force behind the multi-generational sextet Affaere Dreyfuss.
Johannes "Hans" Strasser (double bass)
Born in Upper Austria in 1959, Johannes "Hans" Strasser embodies the ideal jazz bassist: dependable, deeply swinging, and melodically refined. Classically trained in Salzburg and Vienna, he received the Hans Koller Award for Sideman of the Year in 2005. For many years he was the bassist of the legendary Fritz Pauer Trio and played a key role in ensembles such as the Vienna Art Orchestra. His rhythmic elegance has made him an indispensable musician across genres—from intimate jazz clubs and major musical theatre productions to collaborations with international jazz legends including Chet Baker and David Murray.
Mario Gonzi (drums)
Born in 1966, Mario Gonzi is one of Europe's most celebrated jazz drummers. With explosive energy, dynamic intensity, and outstanding technical command, he has earned international acclaim. He was a member of the European Art Farmer Quintet for fourteen years and spent nearly a decade with the groundbreaking Vienna Art Orchestra. In 2001, he received the Hans Koller Award as Sideman of the Year. His impressive list of collaborators reads like a who's who of jazz, including Benny Golson, Johnny Griffin, and Paquito D'Rivera. Gonzi combines explosive precision with an exceptionally refined sense of swing.
Guest: Ismael Barrios (percussion)
Venezuelan-born Ismael BarriosI is one of Austria's best-known and most versatile percussionists. Since the 1980s, he has been a defining presence at the intersection of Latin, jazz, world music, and pop. He has performed with internationally acclaimed artists such as Martin Grubinger and the Vienna Art Orchestra, as well as Austrian pop legends including STS, Opus, and Rainhard Fendrich. Alongside his own Latin jazz projects, he shares his expertise in Afro-Caribbean rhythms as a lecturer, including at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (mdw).

Recorded live at Porgy & Bess, Vienna, Austria, Jan. 2023,.
As one of the pioneers in the European Jazz Rock/Fusion Jazz movement in the 70s, of course OSTINATO was also inspired by Miles Davis. Each of the individual band members in their own way: Tommy Böröcz was clearly impressed by Billy Cobham's rock drumming style, Andi Steirer was enthused by the role percussion started to play in groove music, Rens Newland really loved the approach of John McLaughlin. The musicians who joined later, such as Robert Riegler and Robert Schönherr, certainly included Miles in their playing, directly or indirectly through Joe Zawinul. Likewise, the ostinato horn section uses the same insights that Miles gained for the start of a more global, cosmopolitan style of playing. At this concert the group presented a selection of their own inspirational works from their albums, as well as some adaptions of Miles Davis tunes.

“Koyo” touches upon the motivations that drive the band to create music. When the desire to discover and explore the world awakens in him, the Koyo embarks on a journey leaving his homeland and loved ones behind. Destitute, he wanders through various countries until he reaches a new, unknown land, where he is confronted with a new set of values much different from his own. Even though he struggles financially, he uses his music and spirituality to carve a way through this strange world, in hopes of building a dignified life for himself.

The third solo album of Andi Steirer, the highly gifted and perfect percussion-player/soloist from Austria!
He doesn‘t just play the percussion, he IS percussion! So he also invented the Body-Drumming! Here on this concept album he presents himself as a composer, too. It was recorded and produced by his fellow Ostinato musician Rens Newland. What we get here is 100 percent percussion, full power beats and colourful, diversified music. Meant to dance on or to just listen and dream away. A main influence for these recordings - besides Jazz and Funk – was his affinity with Tech House, which also popped up in his preceding album. The songs are arranged very precisely and feature some saxophones (Thomas Kugi), some alto flutes (Heinz von Hermann), several guitars (Rens Newland) and some high trumpets (Josef Burchartz). Partly the tracks are JUST percussion with underlaid beats, out of a series of percussion works you can also find on his recent EP “Perc House X”. A rich statement of the Austrian master percussionist.

Erwin Schmidt, Martin Fuss, Wolfgang Pointner and Vladimir Kostadinovic are all masters of their respective instruments in any case and these four musicians have more in common than their jazz expertise: what makes The Organ Champs unbeatable as a quartet is their shared grounding in the blues. Plus that a certain funky vibe always underlies their mellow songs and solos. T heir debut recording required no major advance coordination, but they simply counted themselves in and turned it on.
